Skadi was founded to meet demand from the international SOF community for professional cold weather expertise. Our approach is based on the same principles that go into successful cold weather endeavors: humility, quality of craft, excellence in teaching, rapport, and attention to detail. Our instructors are veteran cold weather professionals with extensive backgrounds in leadership and training. Skadi is the Norse goddess of winter, hunting, mountains, and justice.

John is a professional polar explorer and outdoor educator. He is an expert in a wide range of cold weather related topics including clothing and equipment systems as well as expeditionary leadership and teaching methods. John is skilled at relating his expertise to other people’s own endeavors and operational contexts. He has completed several major polar expeditions. Over the past 10 years he has been a subject matter expert, trainer, and expeditionary consultant to U.S., Canadian, and Norwegian special operations forces units. John and his family live in Boulder, Colorado.

NORWAY
Rune is one of the most accomplished and respected polar explorers in the world. He has taken on the longest, most difficult routes, the most difficult way: unsupported. He is the first and only person in the world to cross both the North Pole and South Pole unsupported. Rune began his career in the early 1990s at Norway’s MJK unit. He currently works at the unit as a winter warfare training officer and has trained many teams of U.S. Navy SEALS. Rune regularly guides in Greenland, Antarctica, and on the Arctic Ocean. He lives in Hell, Norway.

HARALD KIPPENES

Harald is a lifelong mountaineer and cold weather professional with a unique knack for creatively applying his expertise. At age 18 Harald and his brother biked from Norway to Bhutan and he hasn’t slowed down since. Harald has completed several major polar and mountaineering expeditions including skiing from the North Pole to Canada and leading two expeditions on Cho Oyo in the Himalayas. He is an 8 year veteran of Norway’s MJK unit. Harald has trained a countless number of people to operate in the cold, from aspiring polar adventurers to British RAF operators. He also owns and operates Yourway a high-end adventure tourism company. Harald and his family life in Oslo, Norway.
